She

She

A Poem by Making Tracks

She’s the one you go home to at night

She’s the one who turns off the light

Is she the one who holds you tight

She’s the one who holds you near

She’s the one that you always fear

Is she the one that calls you dear?

She’s the one that sleeps in your bed

She’s the one who plays with your head

Is she the one that listens to what you’ve said?

She holds on to you with a cast iron grip

But she doesn’t pick you up when you slip

She isn’t the one

I should be the one you hold in your arms

The one to play with and feel your charms

I want to be the one

The one who loves you head over heels

When you bleed I’m the one that feels

I should be the one

Instead you’re trapped, she keeps you prisoner

While I wait with my heart held out to you

I stand in front of you waiting for you to be free

She’s the one you know you don’t need

So tell her straight that you no longer care

She should understand, it’s only fair
