Yes time can be those things, although in some cultures there are no words to describe past or future events , so presumably no words to decribe time either!

Really? I wasn't aware since I thought most cultures saw the passing of the seasons and the study of celestial objects and their movement as a 'time'.....

Actually, there were a few Native American tribes that had no conception of the passage of time. Unfortunately I cannot remember which one they were

This is really profound GW! From my perspective, as a student of Taoism, your answer is really good. Time being "contrived by man to "Try", "to make sence of (his?) universe" Is, well..., perfect! (his?) in parenthesis' is not meant to imply correction, but rather I see it as and excellent segway into another question; Is man so arrogant as to call it "his" universe? Sadly, I think so...
To sum up the words you have written here (again from my perspective), we need to trascend time to truly make sence of our universe. This is an outstanding poem Leslie! Indeed thought provoking on a universal level!
