"

Episode One

Under the Crimson Sky

It’s a chilly night. MIA " a tall teenage girl " is wrapped up in her thick blanket. A cold breeze enters the room " waking her. She plays with her long hair. She sits up. The blanket slides down, revealing her sports bra. Just ahead of her is an open window. A curtain blows in the wind. KAYDEN " a teenage boy stands in front of the window. He slowly walks to the foot of her bed. He sits down. She feels his short black hair. She slightly moves his jacket and slowly rubs her hands across his collar bones. He places his hands on her lower back. He gently moves them up her smooth skin to the back of bra. She moves her hands to his tight abs. They look into each other’s eyes. She grips his wrist, closes her eyes, and takes a deep breath. He leans in. He gently kisses her. She lays on her back. He kisses her right above her navel. She breaths heavily and places her hands against her headboard. He works his way up from her stomach " kissing her as he goes. She wraps her arms underneath his jacket. He bites her neck. She quickly rises and looks at the morning light creep through her closed window. She feels her neck " but there’s no mark.

JESSICA (off):

Mia! . . . You still have school you know!

MIA:

Ok!

(narrates)

That dream again. I usually don’t remember my dreams but when I do " it’s always the same. It’s a quiet town here in Sparrow Falls.

MIA looks at the window at KAYDEN. He stands on a porch across the street.

(Narrates)

There he is, Kayden Fate. No one really knows much about him except his name, the fact that he doesn’t go to school, and that he blew into town a few weeks

ago. That’s when the dreams started. My name is Mia De’Sola and I’m a senior at Sparrow High School.

Later that morning MIA parks her small hatchback in front of a school building. She gets out of the car. Her bra was slightly visible threw her shirt. She closes the car door as ADAM " a teenage boy " approaches her.

ADAM:

Your mom let you go outside like that?

MIA:

Hello to you too Adam.

ADAM:

Am I the only one who thinks it’s ironic that the school is called Sparrow High? Yet the

team is called the Hawks?

MIA (smiles):

 You probably aren’t.

The two of them soon walk through the hallway as LORI " a petite teenage girl " closes

her locker door. She turns around. Her outfit matched MIA’s.

ADAM:

What are we " in the seventh grade?

MIA:

Lori, I don’t know why I let you talk me into these things.

LORI:

And yet the antics continue. Are you ever going to talk to the guy across the street?

MIA (brushes her hair behind her ear):

Who? Kayden?

LORI (rolls her eyes):

Yes!

MIA:

I don’t know.

ADAM:

Well you are doing the school paper " maybe you could interview him.

MIA (looks down at the floor) Well . . . I would like to know more about him.

ADAM:

It’s also a clever way to get your foot in the door.

LORI:

Or your hand down his pants.

MIA and ADAM:

LORI!

LORI:

What? . . . I’m not the only one thinking that way . . . at least not when comes to him right Mia?

MIA:

Come on " we’ll be late for class.

Later that day MIA knocks on the door of a wooden house. KAYDEN opens the door.

KAYDEN:

Can I help you?

MIA (nervously):

Hey . . . umm . . . I’m on the school paper and believe it or not " you when

you moved here you turned quite a few heads.

KAYDEN:

Not the expression I would’ve used but . . .

MIA:

What would you have said?

KAYDEN (steps to the side):

Raised flags.

MIA walks inside the house. KAYDEN closes the door behind her.

KAYDEN:

I guess you want to interview me.

She follows him to the living room. The long drapes nearly touched the floor.

MIA (sits on couch):

It’s a lot of red " a lot of red.

KAYDEN sits down on the couch across from her.

KAYDEN:

Your name is Maya, isn’t it? You live across the street.

MIA:

Mia . . . and yes.

KAYDEN:

My apologies, Mia . . . shall we begin?

MIA opens her folder then pulled a pen out of her pocket.

MIA:

So . . . what brings you to Sparrow Falls?

KAYDEN:

I was just passing through. (leans in and whispers) It’s quiet here, and I like quiet.

MIA:

You decided to stay.

KAYDEN (leans back on the couch) That’s right.

MIA:

You don’t attend school?

KAYDEN:

I’m older than I look " and I’m willing to bet you’re wondering how I can afford all this.

MIA (smiles and brushes her hair over her ear):

The thought crossed my mind.

KAYDEN:

Well the house is paid for and I release at least one book a year.

MIA (writes in her folder):

An author.

KAYDEN (stands up):

I hope this was helpful.

MIA (stands up):

Well you’re not so much of a mystery anymore.

A few papers slide out of the folder and hit the floor. One of them was a picture of a

PAINE " teenage girl with long black hair and deep green eyes. KAYDEN slowly picks it

up. In her hand was a black umbrella " and on her finger was a large ring. It was dark

gray with a black stone on it. The wings on the top of the ring nearly reached the tip of her ring finger.

KAYDEN:

Friend of yours?

MIA:

That’s my last project. I don’t know why I left it in there.

KAYDEN (hands the picture back to MIA):

Who is she?

MIA:

She’s a legend in the gothic underworld apparently. (puts the picture back in her folder

along with the other papers) She’s known only as Paine. She makes appearances every

five years or so " and never in the same place twice. Someone manages to get a picture

or video of her every time. There’s supposed to be pictures of her dating back to

nineteen twenty-one. I was going to do a paper on her, but the committee called it a

hoax that wasn’t worth exposing.

KAYDEN:

Do you have an older photo of her?

MIA:

Sure. (takes another picture of PAINE out of her folder) This is from seventy-one.

PAINE stands on a wall with the open umbrella over her shoulder.

KAYDEN:

No ring . . . when was that picture taken?

MIA:

Two thousand eleven. What’s the deal with the ring?

KAYDEN:

It was made in two thousand nine.

MIA:

Are you saying it may not be a hoax?

KAYDEN:

Let’s just say I have a thing for the occult.

MIA:

I really should be going.

She slowly walks towards the door. It seems as if there was something else she wants to say. KAYDEN walks pass her then opens the door.

Thank you.

She walks out the door. The next day MIA is sitting in class. LORI was making bubbles with her gum. ADAM turned to her.

ADAM:

Seriously?

MORGAN " a teenage girl " walks in the room. She’s no bigger than LORI. Her blonde

bangs emerging from her snow cap.

MIA (narrates):

That’s Morgan " the rocker girl. She normally keeps to herself and doesn’t have

friends that anyone knows of. The students " and even some teachers " like to give her

a hard time.

BOY (whispers):

You know if her breast weren’t so big, I’d swear that was a dude.

Morgan is about to sit down when she hears NIKKI’s voice behind her.

NIKKI (off):

Look what the dog dug up.

Morgan sits down. She sees NIKKI " a teenage girl with long blonde hair " standing in

front of her desk.

MIA (narrates):

This is Nikki Jason the queen bee of Sparrow High School. Rotten to the core her

Senator father sends her money for everything.

MORGAN:

The term is look what the cat dragged in.

NIKKI:

I like to be creative. Call it a stroke of genius.

She sits at a desk across the room.

MORGAN (under her breath):

Genius? You?

Later that day MORGAN is sitting in a living room chair.

DIANE (off):

Morgan! Where are the flashlights!?

MORGAN: Attic!

DIANE (off):

Could you grab some?

MORGAN gets out of the chair " then walks up a flight of stairs to a hallway. She pulls

the sting at the top of the stairs. A staircase comes from the ceiling. Upon reaching the top " she picks up a box by the stairs. She grabs a flashlight and turns it on. She sees a large book in the corner of the attic. She slowly puts the box down and walks towards the corner. She set the flash light next to the book. It has some strange designs on it that surrounds a skull with its mouth open. She’s about to blow the dust from the book " then she stops and tips the book away from, letting the dust fall.

She carries the book on top of the box of flash lights as she walks down the stairs.

DIANE - a curvy woman with long blonde hair " stands at the bottom.

What is that?

MORGAN:

I found it in the attic.

DIANE puts her hands on her hips. MORGAN walks down the stairs. DIANE grabs the

book from the top of the box.

What is it Mom?

DIANE:

Nothing you should concern yourself with.

MORGAN (walks pass DIANE):

Fine.

Meanwhile MIA is laying on the ground in her back yard. She stands up when she sees

ADAM approach her.

ADAM:

Going to the pre-grad bonfire tonight?

MIA:

If my mom will let me. Don’t the seniors stay out until sunrise?

ADAM (fist pumping):

Yes . . . we . . .will.

MIA begins to laugh. JESSICA " a middle-aged woman " walks out of the back door and

towards MIA and ADAM.

ADAM:

Hey Mrs. De’Sola.

JESSICA:

Hey Adam. (to MIA) This has been sitting in the antique shop forever and I thought

you might wanna wear it to the bon fire tonight.

She hands MIA an amulet.

MIA:

Are you saying I can go?!

JESSICA:

I went . . . You should go too.

MIA (gives JESSICA a hug):

Thanks Mom.

JESSICA (whispers):

Just don’t get too drunk.

MIA (whispers):

Ok.

She puts the amulet on. She grabs ADAM’s arm and pulls him toward the front yard.

She walks to the driver side of her car.

ADAM:

Where we going?

MIA (gets in the car):

To see if Lori’s sneaking out tonight.

ADAM shakes his head and smiles. He opens the door " then get in the passenger seat.

Sometime later MIA’s car pulls up in the driveway of a house. MORGAN walks pass the

back of the car. MIA opens the door.

MIA:

Morgan?

MORGAN (stops walking):

Ya know I have no idea what shocks me more " the fact that you’re

talking to me right now or that you actually know my name.

MIA:

I’ve just never seen you outside of school that’s all.

MORGAN notices the amulet around MIA’s neck.

MORGAN:

Nice trinket.

MIA (gets out of the car):

Thanks.

MORGAN begins to walk again.

Hey are you going?

MORGAN (quickly turns around and walks backwards):

To the bon fire? Not my thing " besides

it’s not like my mom would let me go anyway.

MIA:

Ok then.

She closes the door. ADAM watches MORGAN turn back around and walk away.

ADAM:

She’d be pretty cute if she actually dressed like a girl.

MIA:

Adam!

ADAM (looks at MIA):

What?

MIA shook her head then walked toward the house. ADAM took one more look at

MORGAN. He closed the car door and followed MIA. LORI opened a window on the

second floor.

LORI (whispers):

Hey guys . . . I’ll meet you guys tonight " but my father is here. He thinks you’re a bad influence. Little does he know that I’m the one that comes up with the ideas.

ADAM chuckled. MIA and ADAM got back in the car. A black hearse slowly drove pass.

ADAM:

Isn’t that from the funeral home?

MIA:

No . . . it’s the wrong color.

ADAM:

Never mind.

MIA:

Well at least we don’t have to worry about you investigating anything.

She backs out of the driveway and drives away. The hearse was parked at the end of the street. MIA passes by. It follows her.

MIA:

Can you see who’s following us?

ADAM (looks back):

Who tents their windshield?

MIA:

Someone who doesn’t want to be seen.

The hearse’s right blinker turns on.

ADAM:

I think they’re turning.

It turns right " then speeds up.

MIA:

That was beyond creepy.

KAYDEN is sitting on a bench in a shaded part of the park. MIA stops the car.

ADAM:

Is that him?

MIA:

Who?

ADAM (creepily smiles):

Your mysterious crush.

MIA (sadly):

Yeah

ADAM:

Are you ever going to talk to him?

MIA:

I have no idea how old he is.

ADAM:

He can’t be that old.

MIA (pouts):

Please don’t make me do this.

ADAM:

Your call.

MIA begins to drive again. Later that night MORGAN is sitting on a bed. DIANE steps in

the doorway. She looks at MORGAN.

DIANE:

You have your own room you know.

MORGAN (removes her snow cap):

I know

DIANE:

Can’t sleep?

MORGAN:

Not a wink.

She leaves the room and walks down the hall pass a sliding door. DIANE walks in her

room " then closes the door. She turns around and slowly slides the door open. There’s a bookshelf full of books on the wall. Behind the desk is a chair. She picks up the book she found in the attic from beneath the desk. She carries the book out the door " then slowly closes it back. She takes the book in the kitchen and sets on the table. She peeks around the corner " then opens the book. Strange writing fills the pages. She slowly flips through the pages until something catches her eye. It was the amulet that MIA was wearing. The strange writing fades off the page " words fade in their place. (whispers) Ocean Heart Amulet. The inscription underneath reads “The ninth of the Heart Amulets. Used to incase the thirteen vampires this amulet must never be worn under the crimson sky for the light will release an abomination on the world once more.”

Crimson sky? The sky turns red just before the sun sets or rises . . . oh no.

She closes the book, puts on her snow cap, and rushes out the door. She runs pass KAYDEN’s house. He watches as she enters the woods.

KAYDEN:

Something isn’t right.

MORGAN saw MIA swaying from side to side.

MORGAN:

You have to get home before the sun comes up.

MIA:

Who am I Cinderella?

MORGAN (whispering):

No " the light from the sunrise can’t hit that amulet.

MIA:

What are we whispering about?

MORGAN (looks behind her):

This is hopeless.

She looks forward again " MIA was gone.

MORGAN:

Where the hell did she just . . .

MORGAN sees MIA stumbling through the woods. She runs after her.

(points behind her) Where are you going? Civilization is that way.

MIA continues to walk. MORGAN steps in front of her. MIA moves to the side MORGAN blocks her path.

MIA (stomps her feet):

What do you want?

MORGAN:

Turn around and go the other way.

MIA lets out an angry sigh. The light from the sunrise creeps up behind MORGAN.

MORGAN:

D****t.

She turns MIA around " then begins to push her. MIA turned back around towards the

light.

MIA:

Beautiful.

The amulet glows " then slowly fades.

MORGAN:

I hope that book was just a prank.

KAYDEN rushes through the woods. He sees the amulet. He stops. DREW " a teenage boy with brown slicked back hair stands with his back on a tree.

DREW (smiles deviously):

Hello Kayden.

KAYDEN (scolds):

Drew.

DREW looks at the rising sun.

DREW:

The sun and I are having a bit of a feud . . . lucky you.

He speeds towards town.

MIA:

What’s going on?

KAYDEN:

We need to get you home.

He picks MIA up " she passes out in his arms. The next morning MIA wakes up in her bed. JESSICA stands beside her bed.

JESSICA:

Somebody over did it last night huh?

MIA (grunts):

A little.

JESSICA kisses her forehead.

JESSICA:

I’ll make you some coffee.

MIA:

Thank you.

JESSICA:

Oh . . .  and before I forget Morgan wants you to meet her at Kayden’s house.

MIA (thinks):

So that really happened?
