The Sailors Curse

The Sailors Curse

A Poem by Battlecry
"

A poem written with a chorus of sorts about the reader and a sailor.

"

Curse to the ones who sail the seas

Who catch the fish and sell their meat

Curse to the ones who sail the seas

For the sailor who has cursed me

Up near the shore, I just got off

At the harbor where my ship had docked

But unknown at the time to me

I cursed myself, you see

I walked through town and found a man

He asked me if my age was ten

I looked at him, offended then

Scowled and went past him

Curse to the ones who sail the seas

Who catch the fish and sell their meat

Curse to the ones who sail the seas

For the sailor who has cursed me

I met my lover at her house

I spent the night but to find out

She was married to the sailor man

And I cursed myself again

I took off sprinting and looked back

To see him standing; he knew a special a craft

He whispered darkly, I could barely hear

He said “I don’t play fair”

Curse to the ones who sail the seas

Who catch the fish and sell their meat

Curse to the ones who sail the seas

For the sailor who has cursed me

I saw a young boy running past

To be that young would be a blast

I wished I could forever be

Young and wild and free

Curse to the ones who sail the seas

Who catch the fish and sell their meat

Curse to the ones who sail the seas

For the sailor who has cursed me

I found a hay-stack and lied atop

And fell asleep there with a flock

Of crows who sat there beside me

At least they still are free

Woken up from great unrest

I got up, questioning my steps

I ran to the harbor, just to find distress

My reflection is not of me

Curse to the ones who sail the seas

Who catch the fish and sell their meat

Curse to the ones who sail the seas

For the sailor who has cursed me

Staring down the younger me

Who looks ten, and then I see

The sailor standing behind me

“You’re free to do as you please”

Not sure what to do just then

I thanked him for the granted wish

But soon learned that it’s more a curse

As I watched the world turn

Curse to the ones who sail the seas

Who catch the fish and sell their meat

Curse to the ones who sail the seas

For the sailor who has cursed me
