Dirt

Dirt

A Poem by Alex Lifeson
"

I don't even think this is poetry. Somebody on WC asked me to write a poem, a genre I know nothing about, and this was the result.

"

Dirt is the opiate,

Of the small child.

It's brilliant - absolutely brilliant. Weren't you wanting to say more . . . ? I can sense a deeper connection somewhere . . . somewhere in the dirt . . . Did Calvin, the equivalent of your inner child, get high on dirt? Or is it the other kind of dirt? double meanings? . . . I see . . . (if you could see me now I am nodding and smiling in approval of your ability to reach so deeply into your innerhoodismness . . .)

U R 2 cool. lol

Thanks Brianna, it actually occurred innocently enough at my 8 year old son's baseball game. I'm an assistant coach and we were having the toughest time getting the kids to pay attention. Nothing worked. They were transfixed by the dirt; kicking it, throwing it, digging at it, letting it slip through their fingers ... all while balls came whizzing by. I finally came up with a slogan and made them chant it: 'if you're looking at dirt, you're going to get hurt.' Didn't help. So finally in exhaustion, I whispered in the head coach's ear; "dirt is the opiate of the small child."

Two thumbs up! I don't even now how you came up with this, but it is true. I like it!

YAY!

I don't know if it's a poem either, but I'm pretty sure it belongs on a button or something. It's definitely the best thing I've read today.

Amen!

Long live the sandboxes, dinosaurs, and aliens waging war from above. Only to be stopped in mid calamity by the evil Mommy Monster....*snix*

This is getting slapped in my favorites.
