The Warnings Of Fools

The Warnings Of Fools

A Poem by Russell Drake
"

A verse/chorus song for my songwriting class

"

We walk through this world and people we meet
At times it appears as though they mean well
They guide our hands being very discreet
We won’t believe ‘til we see it ourselves

Mother’s warning to exercise patience
Fathers defend us with their divine shield
We live our lives now in blind ignorance
Someday here soon will the truth be revealed

The warnings of fools prophets and liars
All run together like mercury drops
Should we believe or face trial by fire
Can never be sure until the time stops

Here at the start of this beautiful life
Our idols are those whom we wish to be
But they know not of our eternal strife
For they know little of true loyalty

The warnings of fools prophets and liars
All run together like mercury drops
Should we believe or face trial by fire
Can never be sure until the time stops

And so we turn to our closest of friends
We trust them completely second to none
We’ll fight through fear and through death ‘til the end
Whatever lies waiting we’ll face as one

The warnings of fools prophets and liars
All run together like mercury drops
Should we believe or face trial by fire
Can never be sure until the time stops
