My Dimming Star

My Dimming Star

A Poem by Adam Latham

The bright star of my life has dimmed
And casts in shade the years before,
When hope and love and longing brimmed
My youthful cup, but now no more.

Where is the time, those heady days
I courted brashly, blind and bold,
And squandered in so many ways
Without a thought of growing old.

Where have you gone my perfect youth
That once my heart and soul defined,
For now I face a dreadful truth,
Less days to come than left behind.

This is wonderful! It's a sad fact that the joy of youth is wasted on those who yearn to be older. If only I had understood how fleeting the glow of youth really was! I loved your rhythm and your rhymes.

Your choices are smart and the overall tone is masterful throughout. Wistful and sorrowful, yet still somehow, not sad.

Well done!

Right to the point and nice use of language. Sad yet powerful. Well done!

We never have a thought to growing old when we are young, for we are invincible, and nothing can touch us. It really is sad that youth is squandered on the young. Good read, Adam.
