To Keep

To Keep

A Poem by Holly Mason

Hand is on the door, this girl can only be 15.
What she must be thinking ,so young, so brave.
She made it through the protesters to this door.
The things that lead to this decision floating around her.
They are to young and she doesn't even know him.
Her family has not been told. She can't think of telling them.
They will know at school ,they will all hate whisper.
Her body is so young ,her mind is aging with the choice.
She enters the door shaking, rupturing, inside.
Breath young girl ,breath, it is your choice.
She moves and thinks this thing it moves to.
She holds it all in, but the explosion is coming.
Talking to this lady all seems calm and fine.
She can do this, then the heart beat is heard.
The love stirs ,the wondering of future comes.
She will have to tell all of them with their hate whispers.
But she has made a choice...TO KEEP not a sin, a choice.
She knows this will not be easy.Fear is her new best friend.

What a wonderful end line. Not an easy topic to write about, but you have captured the concentration of fear and overflow of emotions wonderfully. Choice, being the most important word.
