Forecast Dark and Balmy

Forecast Dark and Balmy

A Poem by Holly Mason

It is quiet
the gun shots have stopped
the homes are burnt
to the ground
food nowhere in sight
it will be a
dark and balmy night
hope faded
eyes with no light
a dirty soul
wiped with hate
the smell in the air
rancid at best
they whisper
so soldiers do not hear
whispers of ways
to get far and be near
it is quiet
on these streets
with burnt homes
and no food
dark and balmy day
ceaseless it is
sunrises mean nothing
with gunshots ringing
whispers of ways
do not listen
they will know
another bomb dropped
dark and balmy forever forecast

An unusually dark poem, from you, Holly. Until the second last line, I ws thinking about the aftermath from Katerina, when it strucked New Orleans.
