Less Likely To Dance

Less Likely To Dance

A Poem by Holly Mason

Dress not so pretty
head down, instead of high
less likely to dance
but has the power
to fight the whys
find the strength inside
find the you
with personal pride
dress not so pretty
then make it seem to be
for the dancing elite
do not dance with envies feet
no one on your dancing card
then cast a spell of you
less likely to dance
does not have to be
yearning and turning
can be turned into a fight
dancing alone
is everyone's right
look into the mirror
repeating the phrase
yes it is back in the old school days
I think I can, I think I can
then you will learn
what I think is what I am
less likely to dance
is what used to be
now enter the dance floor
dress still not so pretty
with head held high
thinking I am, I can

As young people make your way in this world only to do one thing, to feel accepted, a sense of belonging even if it means putting on a mask, lying about who you really are. Great write!
