Beowulf's Adventures

Beowulf's Adventures

A Poem by Gabrielle Conroy
"

I created this for an English project about Beowulf. This took me about 45 minutes to write and it was sung in the style of an Irish folk song. :) Please let me know what you think.

*Author's Note: Geat is pronounced Gayt*

Hrothgar's King of the Danes.
There was trouble in his kingdom.
He wanted a beast slain
But only one man could triumph.

Beowulf's a Glorious Geat.
The man could kill anything.
All he needed was a time and date
To slay that hideous being.

Hrothgar wanted his resumé.
Beowulf was the greatest in the land.
He killed 9 monsters at a young age.
He took care of the problem at hand.

Beowulf's a Glorious Geat.
The man could kill anything.
All he needed was a time and date
To slay that hideous being.

Beowulf, with his 14 men,
Set off on the murderous journey.
The beast's name was Grendel.
It trashed all halls of mead.

Beowulf's a Glorious Geat.
The man could kill anything.
All he needed was a time and date
To slay that hideous being.

One of his men was sacrificed.
Beowulf jumped and tore of the arm
Of the beast that caused a plight.
There was no longer any harm.

Beowulf's a Glorious Geat.
The man could kill anything.
All he needed was a time and date
To slay that hideous being.

He was then sent off to kill the mother.
She lived inside a cave.
The sword he used was unlike any other.
He sent her quickly to her grave.

Beowulf's a Glorious Geat.
The man could kill anything.
All he needed was a time and date
To slay that hideous being.

He brought her head back to Geatland
To celebrate his new glory.
His final task was to kill a dragon,
This would be his final victory.

Beowulf's a King of the Geats.
The man could kill anything.
All he needed was a time and date
To slay that hideous being.

He brought Wiglaf along.
The bravest of them all.
Though both of them were very strong,
The dragon was Beowulf's downfall.

Beowulf's a King of the Geats.
The man could kill anything.
All he needed was a time and date
To slay that hideous being.

Wiglaf was crowned new royalty
Shortly thereafter.
Beowulf's strength is still in their memory.
His story will be told forever and ever

Wiglaf, King of the Geats.
This man was the bravest.
Beowulf's death was such a shame
So may he peacefully rest.
