Last Grip

Last Grip

A Poem by Haley Tawes
"

A poem about a father going on deployment

"

Last grip for a year

never wanting to let go

walking out the door

we are watching as you go

praying that you come back home

Tear escape our eyes

we had to say our goodbyes

cry ourselves to sleep

always dream the biggest dream

in them you are here with me

Wake up with you gone

mom cant do it on her own

soon you will return

right into our loving arms

until then you're in our hearts

I wrote this in my creative writing class, but I fell in love with it, it really spoke to me.

Reviews

I am returning the favor of a review, but I ordinarily do not critique poetry for several reasons. I know next to nothing about it and therefore feel quite unqualified to comment. I also am not drawn to poetry. Having said that, I like this poem because of its subject matter. It describes a poignant situation and seems to be genuine. I hope this was only "creative writing" for you and not that you have a loved one stationed away from home.
