In your eyes

In your eyes

A Poem by Hana Saemon
"

Love for an orphan

"

With big wide eyes

You look at me

I still remember

The fear, no glee

Glee is something you should have

But pain was all there was to see

Pain from experiences you shouldn’t have

Pain from the love taken away prematurely

You cowered

You felt cornered

As I stood there

Nothing but a stranger

While the others, they run and play

You sit alone, eyes full of biting tears

Tears for the loss, so uncalled for

Tears for the abuse that caused your fears

Trust plundered by the very people you depended on

Trust stolen by the people who should’ve given love

Trust once broken, can never be replaced

Trust taken by those above

In the dark, an angel looks after you

“She is my mother”, I heard you say

But the nightmares still keep you awake

Flames from the past, memories of yesterday

My dear, love is all that I have to give

Love was all that you’ve ever needed

Darling, I’d take away the pain

Put some sparks in those eyes so jaded

Now several months later,

A stranger to you I am no more

Those six year old eyes no longer fear

In my arms, you are safe and secure

In your eyes, now I see

Strength and hope, courage smouldering

Bursting, flaming, burning with fire

Yet gentle, tender, soft and loving

Do not let it die

For you have so much more in you

Let it come alive

I have faith, I hope you do too

This is both beautiful and sad. At the beginning I felt the pain of the orphan you describe and the loss and horror he/she has endured. Then there's hope because of a love he/she is going to be given and strength comes through at the end. Well penned, I enjoyed it very much. Thank you for sharing :)

Thank you! There is hope for every child as long as there is someone to extend it to them. :)

Such tragedy and despicable actions to be endured by those incapable of defending themselves. The rage your write ignites in me that we let such conditions exist. You are tender and loving in the course of action to heal and rehabilitate. Tom

I found this very interesting; 1. because of the pain this child endured, one that is familiar, from those who were supposed to care for him, 2. your word choice and description of the child's eyes and body language is gripping, it had me glued to this piece. I am glad the child found love, someone to trust and be there, it is so important for an orphan, especially if they are still young, they have a better chance of undoing the emotional turmoil caused by others actions.

"My dear, love is all that I have to give
Love was all that you’ve ever needed
Darling, I’d take away the pain
Put some sparks in those eyes so jaded"

This is just beautiful and shows sincere love for another, one that wants to ease the pain. Nicely penned.
