Grey Man

Grey Man

A Poem by Hanna Sellers

A grey man rises

Looks at his shattered self

In a shattered mirror

Pushes his arms into Korean military jacket sleeves

Forgets to shave

Again.

Places himself on a floral swivel chair

In front of a desk without handles

Armed with an Eagle’s feather

In his fountain pen

He begins to write:

A mink scarf
The woman whose neck it warmed
Her gold-amethyst earrings
And pink pearls dropping
One-by-one off their string

A man’s strong body- whole
A rusted push lawnmower
An engineless Chevy
An old gas can

When he is done writing
The grey man rises

Looks at himself
In the broken mirror

Goes back to bed
With his jacket still on
