Life

Life

A Poem by Haniya

Walking down the hallway at Neuqua,

A smile as bright as the sun

Plastered on my face.

I look around at everyone,

My nervous eyes tremble, searching for some kind eyes,

But all I see are silent ones.

No one cares enough to smile back,

No small, polite simpers

Not even a “ hi”.

The happiness on my face fades away, quickly,

As I realize that not everyone

Has learned an important lesson of life.

People expect me to change so that

They can accept my presence.

But I wouldn’t, I won’t,

Not ever, not now.

I’ll wait for those who’ll love me

For who I am.

You’ll just need to change your heart for that.
