The sickness

The sickness

A Poem by Savannah Gossett

He is sick

But not sick from a

Sore throat or a sniffling nose

He is sick because of this

Sadness and anger he holds

His sadness and anger is his sickness

And there's no cure

His mama and papa has tried

Tried to heal his hurt wounds

But his sickness keeps coming back

No matter the strength he has to fight

He says he will always loose

Maybe one day he will see

What his mama and papa see

Maybe one day he will love

Maybe one day he will smile

Maybe one day he will be happy

And maybe just maybe he will feel alive

The sickness would be gone

But that means nothing to him now

Because now he is forever feeling

Stuck in this whole

Where the sadness and anger lies

And where the happiness and kindness should be

And even now the sickness is him

Spreading like a wildfire

Never stopping

And never ending

He needs to heal

But doesn't want to

He needs to smile

But frowns in ways his mama and papa

Could say that's not their boy

So who is their boy

Their boy is sick

And what feels like an eternity

Will soon feel like life
