The outcast

The outcast

A Poem by Savannah Gossett

She says she doesn’t belong

But belong where

To her belonging means to feel something special

Special to a lover, a friend, or even a group of friends

You see to her belonging is something she's always longed for

Why doesn't she belong

It is because of her body

Her facial structure

Her attitude

Or is it because of other people

To her belonging is something that she doesn’t get to choose

Other people choose it for her

She grew up with no friends

She grew up all alone

Because she didn’t belong

People around her made her feel alone

All because she’s different

She can’t change who she is

But neither can other people

So instead of the constant longing for belonging somewhere

She became different

She changed

All because she didn’t belong

All because people were deceiving and rude

All because she was different from other people

And to her that’s her fault
