The rock

The rock

A Poem by Savannah Gossett

There's this place that she feels special

This place is a place where her mother took her

A place her father didn’t even know about

Her mother took her there

To get away from reality

And just to think

But that place was taken

It was taken the moment her mother passed

Her mother was important to her

Her mother taught her how to do things

Things like putting on makeup

Or how to dress

And even how to flirt with boys

She was fifteen when the sadness hit

She was fifteen when her mother passed

She was fifteen when she realized that her dad was her person now

She was fifteen when she realized she was lost and alone

One day years later she met someone

He helped her wounds heal

He made her smile

He made her feel safe

Something her mother made her feel a long time ago

Once she realized how much he meant to her

She went to that place

That place her mother took her

And one step on that place

Made her feel whole again

She took him there

And explained how much this place meant to her

He understood and loved it

Now it was there place

And that place was a special place

It was a rock

It was a rock in the middle of the woods

That rock now had moss on it

As green as the grass

And the light beaming through the trees

Was as if it was on glazing water

She had now realized how much this place meant to her

And swore to see it every chance she got

Because if not for this rock

She would feel the connection begin to go away

The connection between her and her mother

This is the significance of the rock in the woods

A beautiful poem for your mother dear Savannah. We need the special places to remind us. We had a wonderful person who loved us.
"Because if not for this rock
She would feel the connection begin to go away
The connection between her and her mother
This is the significance of the rock in the woods "
I liked the ending. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry and a memory.

I am glad and you create a interesting story in the poetry. You are welcome dear Savannah.
THIS IS....
It is like a story itself. And the whole thing, every emotion in it is explained in such a simple way. It was really a fun to read poem and the ending is beautiful.
Is this poem about you or just a story? Because if it is, I am really sorry for your loss. But the way you have conveyed that 'she' has moved on and found someone who knows how to keep 'her' safe just like the mother.. is beautiful!
