Deliverance in White Trash America

Deliverance in White Trash America

A Poem by Laurent Hardesty

Needles,
Death Rattles,
and Bottles Galore.
Everyday Another War.
Another Battle.
Internal Strength Being Tested
another Day
and Just One More.

The Funny thing is that I Care.
A Homeless Man in the Summer Air,
Eyes filled with Hope
that you have Money to Spare
for another Hit,
or Bottle
to Pass the Time out There.

I like to Believe in
a Funny thing as well.
That for a Moment
there's Hope in our Hell.
A Thing We All go Through,
a Moment of
"Stop Right There!"
That probably came from Above
to Answer our Prayers.

Only lasts a minute though,
before we go back to the
Needles,
Death Rattles,
and Bottles Galore.
We Finally get Saved
but We Choose to Ignore.

great title, I agree. the poem touches on something serious in nature, I like the dirt it exposes and the edge in the voice. there's an ounce of despair with a touch of hope
