Crossroads

Crossroads

A Poem by Charles Chukwuani

Perhaps you were strolling through a woods late at night,
Or finding your way through a cave with diminishing light,
And fate decided to grant you powers of both hind and foresight,
Presenting a crossroads with three paths shining equally bright.
The left path leads you back in the hardly understood dimension,
That man uses to comprehend and measure elapsed duration,
You gaze upon your past in your fully detailed recollection,
With the opportunity to go back and redo it all down to the slightest mention.
Would you go?
Hindsight stares deep into your eyes with her smirk of contempt,
Her blatant omniscience,
Envoking your memories to burn with feelings and thoughts once past,
As you curse your very mind and all its power,
For one is only grateful for the ability to recollect,
When positive recollections outweigh negative ones,
Quickly as it began the mental assault ends,
And you are staring at Hindsight and her path once again.
Would you go?
If you were to carry your gaze from the past and onto the opposing way,
You would see that the right leads to where no man can predict or say,
The future abound with untold mystery you could so choose to stray,
With the chance to take a leap forward and make tomorrow into today.
Would you go?
Foresight avoids your gaze with a face that belies no emotion,
For you cannot know him or what he knows of you,
Bursting forth from the vestiges of your mind comes the yearning for knowledge,
The knowledge of your future,
Of the chance to no longer be agonizingly burdened by the questions of Fate,
Snapping her thread and leaving everything behind,
Skipping straight ahead without having any control over the 'how come',
As Foresight stands waiting with him alone knowing the outcome.
Would you go?
Then comes the last and middle road so oft ignored by the eyes of men,
So unglorious and so ordinary is the way of now to the wandering brethren,
The present path holds neither future potential nor chance to undo past sin,
For it leads to both nowhere and everywhere that is already within.
Would you go?
No manifestation exists for this path alone,
A simple mirror is all that is to be found at the entrance to the road,
Showing you all that you are with not a single detail left untouched,
And challenging you to be brave enough to accept yourself,
To accept your mistakes and your uncertainties,
Your perfect imperfections,
Your weaknesses and your strengths,
The mirror keeps nobody waiting for your choice but yourself.
Would you go?
So goes...
The rumor of the crossroads...

And yeah I would choose the future. I know if I do anything now, it will change everything so I'd just want a sneak peek. :)

If I had a dollar for everytime I've thought to go to the past. But it only changes the future. This is a good one Charles. (Y).
