A Trapdoor To Thoughts Below

A Trapdoor To Thoughts Below

A Poem by Charles Chukwuani

It was cloudy outside,
The light and playful kind,
With enough sunlight to make you want to just keep walking,
The ground disappeared beneath my feet,
Descending destructively to derisive demons,
The kind that mirrored those of Dante's Hell,
Flowing into each other in their infernal pits,
Expressing thoughts that I am unable to quell,
Wretched screams reaching a tumultuous cascade,
Demonic claws threatening to tear me apart within,
Then I open my eyes and I am still just walking,
The clouds are now darkened and no longer as friendly.
