The Shower

The Shower

A Poem by Haunzwürthe
"

If you cannot laugh at yourself, you cannot begin to take yourself seriously.

"

I was scared.

No other way to put it really.

Lying in the tub,

water splashing down,

I was paralyzed by the fear

of being broken.

Was this it?

Everyone has scars,

some beyond control,

some by accident,

others by stupidity.

Each scar with a story

of it's own.

Is this my story?

I can't possibly fathom

bearing the brunt of

shower jokes

for years to come.

Yet here I lay

frozen in fear.

I had fallen in the shower,

convinced myself

of a broken leg,

and all the while

I hear my wife

laughing hysterically

from outside.

Drama and angst turn to hilarity. An entertaining read with a twist at the end.

that was really a turn of events, from terror to the laughter that a reader undoubtedly reads once they reach the end. great work
