A Poem by Helena

Mellow sat a fellow
Perched on the Sphinx’s head
Yellow pizza pie full moon eye gawked
Hung chariot low and phantom stalked

Kite high and comfortable
Seated on magic woven kilim carpet
Below jackal and hyena shadow playground played
Garbled gibberish gridded the surreal scape

Rap! Tap-tap!
Scarabs began the beat
Rap! Tap-tap!
Bourbon Street break soon ended

Suspended on top of the world
Sphinx’s head rejuvenated the tap dancer
Bourbon Street memories rushed back
Saints came marchin’ from all over

Mellow fellow jumped up
Wild abandonment tap danced him
Below jackal and hyena did the Charleston
Seven silver falcons trumpeted loudly

Pizza pie full moon eye crossed the Nile in style
Scarabs played croquet at the Sphinx’s feet
Milky white skeletons smoked cheroots
Rhett Butler cussed below

Scarlet said she didn’t give a damn
For once their kite high son was happy
Rap! Tap-tap! Scarabs kept the beat
A tallow glow Mona Lisa smile sat on the Sphinx’s face

Nine elegant praying mantis fellows in top hats and tails
Nod " nodded their heads while quietly sipping Peyote tea
Minute crystal tea cups winked
Blinked back at the pizza pie full moon eye

No disputin’ Rasputin opted out
Penance drove him to design
Carve more compact Babushka Russian Dolls
Chill blain Siberian cold cooled his cockles

Pied Piper O Pied Piper
Stream me a new dream
Teach me a tangible, tenacious new tune
Nothing new under the sun, moon and stars?
Bet my bottom dollar this ain’t true!
