Birthday Party

Birthday Party

A Poem by Hilary Adams

Dark and cold, outside the wind blows and swirls

Snow, freshly fallen, into the air

We stand side by side in a kitchen full of people

Clutching our wine glasses

Listening

I let my hand brush against your sweater,

Enjoying the feel of the cashmere on my skin

I nudge and lean against you

You let me,

Support me

Remind me not to throw so many parties

Or go so many places

Or venture too far from home

Comfort is here

With you
