For what its worth

For what its worth

A Poem by HollyGolightly

This world whispers its lies to me

that what i own defines who I am

and what i wear determines my worth

Why is it that the more i collect

the more my insecurities grow

the more money i spend

The more empty i become

What would it be like if just for a day

I gave all of my earthly possessions away

How would it feel to take only what i need

Knowldedge, wisdom, love, and my creativity

Would I walk a little taller and find the security i seek

With nothing to offer

except purely, me

I really enjoyed this one. It's powerful but subtle at the same time. Like it was sneakin up on me. I look foward to reading more of your stuff and I hope that you too enjoy reading some of mine.

Excellent! I love this philosophical poem! I don't think I ever met a rich person that I considered truly happy, but have known the most incredible warmth, sincerity, and character among families with meager means and possesions!

Charming write, lovely lady!

To answer your question, I think you might. In regards to wealth and possesions, we all need enough, but how much that is may vary. I grew up very poor, but those experiences now give me both fuel and fire for my writing. There's something to be said for a meager existence.

Really lovely piece. Great concept. I love the curiousity of the writer, and the almost trapped feeling of having all they have. Especially love the lines

"Why is it that the more i collect
the more my insecurities grow
the more money i spend
The more empty i become"

The creeping fear is amazingly real. Love it. CKx
