Gems

Gems

A Poem by Anna
"

A short poem I made on how I see people

"
Many start their birth
Here on this place called earth

A gem can shine and shimmer
Or it can dull and grow dimmer

Some are large and live in a collective
Some are smaller and more protective

Many types can exist
But many times we fail to recognize their gifts

We love the many colours in vibrant shades
While we ignore the outer shell focusing on the grades

It never occurs to one that a gem in divine
Colour, grade, and size are not part of its design

We placed these on them to add importance
Falling to recognize what we don’t want is labeled as insignificant

In a gem the deeper we cut the more beauty we see
We discard the shell only seeing it as debris

A gem is a gem through and through
And before you go here’s a small clue

Just for you I won’t tell you want to do
However I will ask you

If the labels are gone
The grades are done

Size becomes redundant
And colour seems irrelevant

Is there still something that it has to deserve their name
Answer yes, the name was never something they had to claim

Many start their birth
Here on this place called earth

Some are a collective
While others are more protective

But every gem is unique
No matter the shade or colour hidden in it’s mystique

The one thing I know to be true
Is that you are a gem through and through
