Two toddlers wore rain

Two toddlers wore rain

A Poem by Relic

In the yard, in the fog
of a heavy downpour

two toddlers wore rain
like tight-fitted jeans

which clung to their clothes
so soggy, and yet ~

in moments of glee
with a spin and a spree

they laughed and laughed
to a thousand thuds

as each thundering thump
of their shiny red boots

forced a violent splatter.
But what does it matter?

For youth is a moment
cleaved to a cloth

made of exquisite fabric
for a future memory.

I often think of myself as a child enjoying the rain... so this lovely poem made sense to me and my desires.

Such fun and visually pleasing. Kids dancing in the rain, splashing in puddles in red wellies. Loved it. Pity us adults don't take a leaf out of their book.

we'd probably all much better off if we hadn't gone the mud splashing age
Pleasant memories of soggy little souls

I agree, Dave. Thanks for the read and comment. :)
I was a teacher for forty years. I still am in a way. Throughout my career I learned that the teacher learns from the pupil as much as the other way around. And perhaps what they learn from this innocence is well worth more.
A wonderful image created here.

Thank you so much for such a kind review, Ken. It's much appreciated. :)
I think we adults can learn from the children. Even here in Kyiv, despite the dangers closing in on us, I still see children playing undeterred. Their innocence is a precious commodity. I sure hope many of the children here retain that youthful outlook and are not disturbed by all they are witnessing. Their fabric of future memories may be torn and tattered otherwise. Lovely lines, Relic. ❤

What a lovely write! I especially like your closing lines...(youth is a moment cleaved to the cloth made from the fabric of future memories.) That is such a fabulously poetic thought! ~Sharon

Thanks so much for your comment, Miss Sharon. It's much appreciated.
We adults could take a lesson from children as pictured in this offering. The two kids depicted here are able to enjoy simple things like playing in the rain. There is no need to posture, to compare or compete, just mutual enjoyment in the present moment. Somehow that marvelous ability gets hijacked by the years, replaced by worry, envy, resentment and a host of other things. I mean, really, can you imagine Putin playing in the rain?
