The City Burns On

The City Burns On

A Poem by Katherine

gleaming glass

spears the clouds

stretches for white-hot

sky.

black-burning asphalt

fragments of scent

lychee and dragon eyes curl, coil

melt in mouths.

hope

and car exhaust

hang heavy over

a sea of people moving as one.

sun burns out

city burns on

sea never slowing

never sleeping.
