If Only these Walls could Speak!

If Only these Walls could Speak!

A Poem by Bidu Ibrahim

If only these walls could speak

They would have a lot to tell

They would tell of sadness

So heavy, immense

And darker than a hundred stormy moonless nights,

They would tell of loneliness

The emptiness, the vacuum

Threatening to force them to cave in

They would tell of desires

So strong and intense

On the brink of exploding

Incomparable to a hundred Hiroshimas!

If only these walls could speak

They would tell of frustrations,

The sighs,

The clicks,

The groans,

The depression

And the shame of seeing

A grown man crying himself to sleep!

If only these walls could speak

They would tell of shouts

And screams that shatter their peace,

They would complain of being hit

Kicked and things smashed against them!

If only these walls could speak

The would tell of the pride,

The resolve,

The hope,

And the blind faith that all problems will dissolve!

If only these walls could speak,

Then the magic they hold would dissolve.

In their silence they keep secrets,

In their indifference they offer no unsolicited advice,

In their patience they turn the other cheek,

And in their consistency they provide much needed stability;

These Walls

Offer all that nosey bipeds will never give!

as well as many other things, walls, are man-made, you cant know if you have to love them or to hate...we need them to save our privacy, but at the same time we feel they are emprisoning us. man, i think it would be a disaster if walls would talk! imagine if they do! the world would be destroyed then! unlike you, i am happy that walls never talk! i hope they stay silent forever as well. great work ibrahim.....shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...........shut up...walls!

Oh these walls are so magnetic, maybe they are the walls of your room, of your soul, of your heart..? maybe these walls should be opened to the world, and speak one day? and all pain from them to go away, and sadness to be removed by the wind outside? But these walls are so extremely closed...How to be broken without pain?

it's funny what happens inside the walls, the secrets they hold, the abuse they've taken, our pain they witnessed. it would make me think twice; that they can actually be a source of comfort and solace that people are unable to provide or even make worse. excellent poem.
