Paraphrasing

Paraphrasing

A Poem by Abhra

Perhaps in closing

perhaps in whispers

I write to you again.

In my halted speech

words spill over slowly…

A thought hues

my absent gaze

I keep the break of dawn

in the folds of re-read pages

about the wind soft

and the grass green,

I know them from somewhere before.

From another fall…when I had them as witnesses

to our native hearts.

Shadows and light playing

hide and seek in our words.

And like this

Night came.

Everyday as the closest sea.

Intimate. Paraphrased.

I recall nights like these

In its quietude..

And I kept count of heartbeats.

I know

that roots end somewhere,

things draw to a close

and as such

I have come to talk, uncertainly,

about breaths that diffuse.

I know we have lost much

But I wonder

if there's day

in which you recall that subway

ride, fondly.

all that to a subway ride...ah my youth in NYC brought back...but this is a lovely piece..and being a teacher i like the idea of remembering those romantic times the best we can...can't remember them feeling by feeling, word by word...but we could paraphrase them...

i am so glad you commented on my piece so i could find your work.

Thank you Jacob for your kind review.

just a tweak there...in the lines...like your other one this has the subtle feel and you convey your words to the reader of this narrative...the story unfolded well and leave us to question the last lines...

The ride, the one where she huffed on the window and wrote your name inside a heart with hers on the foggy glass? I bet she remembers. (I don't know why I wanted to say that.) This is gorgeous writing but your work always is. Glad to see you are writing again.
