The Emperor of America

The Emperor of America

A Poem by Eric Savage
"

My personal Hero: Emperor Joshua Norton I. How can you not love a man who declared himself to be Emperor of North America?

"

You stand alone

On both sides of the line

Union Blue

Confederate Grey

Without your edict

Laws are wrong

An Englishman

by way of South Africa

He alone controlled the American continent

Unbeknownst to his subjects

Print your own money

and have it laughingly accepted

"By royal appointment"

Your seat in history is reserved.

Who knew?

San Francisco: capitol of the free world

They call you mad...

I call you Emperor

Now this I like, minimal language makes each word count and your phrasing is tight.
I have to admit I have no idea who it's about, but I'll tell you this, I want to know.

In the last verse...should it be " They" call you mad?
I just wasn't sure.

Nice work
Namaste'
