Graduating Thoughts

Graduating Thoughts

A Poem by Cherub

I WALKED INTO THE VERY SAME BUILDING

I WILL BE WALKING OUT OF FOR THE LAST TIME

TODAY.

GRADUATION SEEMS SO SIMPLE

YOU GO,

GET YOUR DIPLOMA,

WALK OUT.

NO.

GRADUATION

IS LETTING GO OF THE PAST,

LEAVING PETTY GRUDGES BEHIND

MOVING FORWARD FROM THE HELL

 THEY'VE TRAPPED YOU IN

FOR 12 YEARS,

AND JUST

FINALLY

BREATHING

FRESH AIR WITHOUT STRESS

FROM HOMEWORK

AND STANDARDIZED TESTS.

EVEN IF YOU THINK,

YOU ARENT READY YET

YOU WILL BE.

LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! This is a remarkable piece of well-stated observation! I love that you've put me into a state of mind where I've never been, not even at my own graduation so many decades ago. I'm afraid I was only interested in getting high & getting on the bus to go on our all-night Disneyland trip . . . nothing near as insightful! Your poem is especially impactful becuz of the details you've included, painting a picture of thoughts & feelings upon such a momentous occasion. Thanks for sharing.
