Shame

Shame

A Poem by A.J.

Shame

If ever there was a failure disguised

That wretch I have found in me

If ever a mirror spoke wisdom

It has found the disgust in me

If ever lament found residence

It surely resides in me

If ever my demons be counted

Legion would be mine name

If ever virtue fought for its keep

That battle rages fierce in me "still

If ever my demons be silenced

It would surely be the death of me

If ever my disgust should abandon

It would leave nothing of me.
