Ninety-Nine

Ninety-Nine

A Poem by Insight "MH"

Ninety-Nine
There was a man who killed ninety-nine
Filled with regret in bone and spine

To a Hermit he set to find
 Answers to his bothering mind
Oh, Hermit, I am a man who killed ninety-nine
Will God forgive these sins of mine?

The Hermit looked at him with despise
No, you shall not after all the cries
Your soul is doomed and damned
Then the dead became one hundred
A divine voice continuously echoed:
"There is light at the end, there is light at the end"
To a Scholar he went, may he mend the bend

Oh, Scholar, I have killed one hundred men
 Will those sins be forgiven?
The Scholar said in a smile:
"a wide sea is behind every Kyle"
And light will come after light is gone
Don't you see the dusk, then comes dawn?
But you need a determined heart Washed with your tears of regret
Leave the land you were in filled with so much sin
To a holy land which is new and pure
There you will find redemption for sure

The young burdened soul set off to travel
Each step he made determined to unravel
The mistakes that his hands viciously committed
His fate was final, his fortune was uttered
He will die on this holy journey of shame
Two parties descending from the heavens cried out to his name

The angels of punishment wanted to take him to hell
He has killed one hundred souls, and he will suffer all their pain, he will
The angels of mercy wanted to take him to heaven
For his voice of regret and shame has traveled throughout the seven
He came with a clean conscience, look at his face!
It is filled with remorse which made it glow with grace

The angels continued to argue his fate
Then a man appeared between them, asking of his case
An angel disguised as a man secretly sent
Suggesting a measurable distance between the man and the land he fled
And the land which the Scholar suggested

God knew he was close to the sinful land
With his mercy, He chose to make the Wicked land an inch further
And the Holy Land an inch nearer
The angels of His mercy were happy
For God's mercy, there is no measure

The pious forget that God's forgiveness is for all who ask him and repent from their wicked ways, and that one soul lost in his own shame and dam-nation is a born a new man. A leopard cannot change his spots. A predator is always a predator, but in God all things are possible.
