Night Companions

Night Companions

A Poem by Mark
"

Between the hours of 11pm until 4am the interstates are pretty much owned by us truckers.

"
It's night and the lot is
full of  sleeping giants;
some chortling in idle
some silent in wait.

In their covered chambers
the drivers snooze;
dreaming of girls? fishing?
of being home?

Another night, quiet
and cool, the arc of
the street lights
is my friend.

At night
I can drive with my
brothers and sisters.
We travel in packs

with the occasional
4 wheeler weaving
between us; we
watch, wary for signs of drink.

Watching the trees
looking for shining eyes
or movement.
A deer unsure where to run.

It's night
and I begin another mile
toward 500 more
and the coming day.

Thank you for reading ;)
wow what a great reflection of that life...brothers and sisters on the road together...and at the truck stop, the idling, the big rigs resting as well as the drivers...

and then, back on the road again..

really nice work...

Mark, I am going to share this with my trucker brother when he comes home. He will love this. He talks of the same things you do. Nicely done! Angi~

Thanks Angi, let me know what he thinks of it.
This reminds me of my friend Dave who took the same journeys you write about here, you know that story, sounds like it could be a lonely and tedious time out there all alone on that long road ahead of you, good read Mark. What, no mention of 20 year olds? ;-)
