Soul Surgery

Soul Surgery

A Poem by Mark

There are so many pieces
I'd like to remove.

The ones that ache
like broken glass
embedded so long ago,
now worn at the edges;

but still able to make me
bleed.

There are parts I would remove
surgically, precisely
and tossing them in the salty water
I'd watch to see what ate them.

Would I smile then?
See a bright world
after my clouds are gone?

 I would probably
ignore the beauty,
the pain gone, the ecstasy unbalanced,
I would likely fall away.

Those pieces, that cut and tear
somehow come together;
To help make me a whole.

I considered dropping the w. I suppose the homophone is enough.

You've said it all so beautifully. Life's experiences make us the person were are and will be. Get rid of the bad and you lose the good.
You have a wonderful talent.

Thank you so much. I'm glad you saw something in my work.
I believe we put together an ego piece by piece, a character lie against dread, a denial of our mortality.

And indeed, decomposing that persona is equally dangerous as having none.

The rough and tumble of life is stitched
so well together in your words.
Liked the title too...paddy.
