left behind

left behind

A Poem by Alm

gone are those games

played on a swing

on lazy days,

fairytale

loves and dreams.

birthdays

topped with

icing and cream.

that gap between

smiling

teeth.

always laughing,

carelessly

smiling.

chubby hands

drawing

crooked lines

of straightforward

things.

reveling in

innocent delights.

living, and loving

with naive

faiths and hopes.

then, looking back

at who

I left behind.

I guess I just looked back and saw who exactly it was that I left. We leave nobody but our past selves behind. I kind of miss her, I kind of don't. Tell me what to improve.

Thanks for the review! :)
This is incredibly well written and makes me feel very nostalgic. I just recently left middle school and only a few of my friends are going to the same high school as me. This brings me back to the saddest last day of school I ever had, a fantastic promotion dance ending in the entire class crying in each others' arms. I definitely enjoyed this poem and I can relate in every way. It seems like everyone was rushing to get to high school, but now we just want to get back to those days in the old play ground, care-free and laughing, not knowing what the future would hold. Anyway, that's what I thought about while I read your poem; it made me happy and sad, in other words, very nostalgic. Great poem.

Very nice and playful! It allows the reader to go back and feel all the whimsical. Just my opinion, but the very end seems a bit sad and maybe that is what you want. I wonder, though, if you want to continue that whimsy. You miss her, yet you don't- maybe your ending could also reflect that. Just my view, you are the author and a very good one at that!

Thank you, Ryan. I've been nostalgic for quite a while now, for some reason.
