A Perfect Sphere

A Perfect Sphere

A Poem by Irving Glass

I saw you living

But I never thought about the cost

Life takes it all if you do it right

I never knew how much you lost

And now I don’t know

If I really wanted to

I always saw you through a winnowed light

I’m sorry

You’re in the open now

Still I wish I’d been able to keep

You safe behind closed doors

I don’t really care

That that isn’t fair

To me you always were

A golden boy

A perfect sphere
