Jealousy

Jealousy

A Poem by Isaneri

Like a tide turning violently
Sharp waves crash and cut open
The feeling of drowning is arising
Fear - anger - and despair markedly wins over

Yet, just as the sea thrashes about
and darkness overcomes the sky
the serenity and calm of after
masks the jealous hearts' true gripe

And just as the feeling of rancor
grips on loves' heartstrings
So does indifference,
in an attempt to fix a broken being.

Yet indifference solves nothing
and nothing can be resolved
because jealousy rears its ugly face only once
and repulsion from the offended lover
scares it off

Thus it ultimately hides
at the bottom of a dark trench in the sea
and few can see it directly
though it still feeds -

It feeds on the heart of the woman who feels it
on the fuel it needs to breathe-
the beauty of the other contender,
and the attention that she ultimately steals.
