Coin Flip

Coin Flip

A Poem by JohnnyB

What You Gave Me

You gave me a laugh through my tears,
You gave me contentment through my fears,
You gave me a smile through my frown,
You gave me breath when I thought I would drown;

You gave me your hand when I felt all alone,
You gave me a light where one had never shown,
You gave me an embrace that made me feel secure,
You gave me strength, so my doubts I can endure;

You gave me truth in a world full of lies,
You gave me a vision of touching the skies,
You gave me an umbrella to shelter me from rain,
You gave me pleasure to stop my pain;

You gave me reality in my dreams,
You gave me happiness to stop my screams,
You gave me joy in the face of sorrow,
You gave me a desire to face tomorrow;

You gave me a feeling that's hard to explain,
You gave me reason in a world so insane,
You gave me a love so true and so free,
You gave me the strength to go on being me.

What You Took Away

You took away my trust and left me filled with doubt,
You took away my feeling you're the one I can't live without,
You took away my umbrella and left me in the rain,
You took away my contentment and gave me back my pain;

You took away my security and left me feeling cold,
You took away my peace and made my heart explode;
You took away your hand and left me all alone,
You took away your warmth and chilled me to the bone;

You took away my hope and crushed a beautiful dream,
You took away my laughter and caused me to almost scream,
You took away my smile and gave me back my frown,
You took away my island and left me in the sea to drown;

You took away my heaven and cast me into hell,
You took away my freedom and returned me to my jail,
You took away my sunshine and gave me cold, dark skies,
You took away my vision and left blindness in my eyes;

You took away your arms that held me in a tight embrace,
You took away your friendship and turned to another's face,
You took away good memories by using lies and deceit,
You took away a victory and turned it into defeat;

You took away your honesty and threw it all away,
You took away sincerity and decided to try to play,
You took away your heart before we really had begun,
You took away true love, not realizing what you've done.

Oh wow.. such a fierce flip that love has it's way with in life.. to be given and believe in something sublime placed within the trust of one signifcant person .. being showered with everything one dreams of .. and flipped it into the ultimate nightmare!

This flip came with loss.. no positivity from this interaction found creatively or otherwise in the contrast.. they say it's better to have loved and lost than never at all.. but here.. I sense a real tremendous downward spiral. This was intense.. the flow and wording was pure contrast for everything gained was lost.. so sad love can be.. great imagination used to create a portrait of the painful side of love lost!
