That Friday Feeling

Anticipation grips my soul,

The sun’s rays beckoning me,

Times march beyond my control,

But I cannot wait to be free.

Peaceful time on my back deck,

Watching the world spin.

Days spent chasing the paycheck,

Afternoon brings this poet a grin

I call it the great unwind,

After pushing myself daily.

The relaxing of my poetic mind,

Hopping this lexicon doesn’t fail me.

Ponding future writes with delight,

As the afternoon sun drops out of the sky.

Puff, Puff, pass makes my mind right,

And sets my spirit high.

 Anticipation now growing,

I am almost free,

The clock shows no sign of slowing

Filling me with Glee.

I love the Friday feeling,

As I am sure everyone does too.

Bring on the weekend healing,

And let the sunshine warm me through.

Though I am now retired, I remember fondly the old TGIF feeling. I also recall the Sunday night blues.
