Never Look Back

Never Look Back

The photo for this piece was also the inspiration for the piece itself. It was taken of my two oldest daughters in Okinawa, Japan.

Never Look Back

My beautiful angels,

To you, I make this promise, and a simple request for your future.

I will not ask you to choose one path or another.

Your life is your own to design.

I ask only that you never look back.

Always look ahead at what is on the horizon

Keep your feet on the ground, with the sand in your toes

But let your mind drift far away, to the heavens above

And play amongst the constellations, resting upon the moon

Climb mountains and bask in the beauty of all that you see

Dream your heart's desire, and dance in the rain.

Never worry about money or fame

Money can only be spent, my angels,

And fame is nothing but the shallow affection of strangers

Focus your energy on the wealth of your spirit,

And the love of those who will catch you

When you need a soft place to fall.

Be bold, and be daring;

And fortune will smile in your favor.

Live like there are no second chances, because there aren’t

Laugh like the children you are now, freely, and without worry.

Love with your whole heart, without fear of being hurt.

Dance like no one is watching, even if they are.

Sing loudly, even in the shower;

Don't worry if you're slightly off key.

Keep your sense of humor,

And laugh at life's absurdities.

Fall down, and then dust yourself off again.

Swim across the oceans of doubting faces

And reach that paradise we all seek, but rarely find.

Be who you are, who you were meant to be

And let your trials fall away like the tears from your beautiful eyes.

Then wipe them away, and don't forget to smile.

Whatever you do, wherever you go,

Promise me, you'll never look back.
