Face Value

Face Value

A Poem by J Carly
"

Cast aside vanity for sanity's sake. We are all beautiful. Inner beauty may not be visible, but the greatest gifts are those for which we must seek...or something like that.

"

In a world where outer beauty

Is a marketable commodity

And sex is the only thing that sells

What is the value of the face in the mirror?

With a nose too broad to be feminine

A complexion too pale and freckled to be exotic

Eyes too plain to draw a second glance

Cheeks too full to fit the standard

Lips too thin to be luscious and sweet

The beauty within cleverly wrapped

In plain, brown packaging

Making the cost of vanity all too apparent

I actually thought of writing one like this and am glad you had the fortitude and honesty to beat me to it. The last three lines summed it up brilliantly and they're too true.

How I have missed reading you perfect writes...I'm so glad I started with this one. You have always had a way of allowing the reader to feel as if they are moving in a spirial manner while reading your work...and this is no exception. Perfectly crafted as always and a pleasure to read. Pure brilliance my dear friend.
