Ceiling

A Poem by Justin Guidroz

What I did last weekend.

Popcorn clouds decorate the vast white sky
that turns from day to night
with the flick of the fan blade.
The gusty wind flings dust around
while they lay on the bed together.
I lay down on the soft beige ground
with my eyes closed and arms folded
behind my head, making a pillow
harder then one they are unwilling to sacrifice.
The blades’ creaking rotations penetrate
the uncomfortable silence.
I lay here and silently wait
for the silence to stop.

silence is terrible. except "silence" isn't necessarily silent, because there's always this eerie, well, sound, that's not really a sound. it's like a ringing in the stillness.
or maybe that's just my very conscience teeming.

I like the description of the clouds as "popcorn".
