Storms of Life

Storms of Life

A Poem by Solace Descending
"

Friendly or romantic love? Both nearly hold true. Only one line suggests what I was going for. Can you find it? *** I sat down to write this without any prior planning, and minimal editing.

"
I stand alone.
I face the failing light of the westering sun, consumed by the oncoming storm.
I stand abandoned.
The tempest is after me; it knows no mercy. I cry out, but no one comes.
I stand hopeless.
The clouds are here, rending my soul. It doesn't matter anymore, the end is nigh.
I fall scared.
There is still reason to live. I forgot that there is always hope.
I tremble alone.
No one will hear me, no one will save me. I want to live; I can't.
I tremble foolishly.
I finally want to live; the choice is taken from me. I am not going to live now.
I am alone.

I stand alone.
Abandoned, hopeless, scared. I called out, but no one heard.
I fall alone.
My storm is here to consume me. All semblance of light is but a memory.
I hear a voice.

~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~

I cry out.
One last time.
Knowing that I shall never call again.
I see Death in the distance. I don't care; I don't need to hurt.
I don't need to hurt for the rest of my life if I hold out but a few seconds.

~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~

I forget.
My storm may be here, but why is someone else calling out?
I forget.
O storm, what have you to offer me but ill will?
I forget.
I will rescue this person. Maybe my life can mean something.
I run.
I flee from my storm. But not because I am afraid of it.
I run.
I see another storm, darker than my own. I cannot escape this one if I dare enter.
I dare.

~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~

I see someone.
Did they hear my call? No, it must be one of Death's imps.
I see someone.
Wrong. It is a person. Can they save me? Do they even want to?
I see someone.

~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~

I see someone.
Can I save them? I know I want to. But will my storm blow away?
I see someone.
Will saving them save me? I won't change my mind if it didn't.
I see someone.
But, still, can they save me?
I see someone.

~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~

We meet together.
Our storms merge together.
We try to help each other.
The storms merely cooperate with each other.
We couldn't stand against alone.
The storms could destroy us alone.
Together, we resist, we want to live!
Together, the storms tremble, still wanting to kill!

Death

The storms wither away.
We grow close.
The darkness fades.
Our light glows.

~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~

Lighthearted, we are together.
Overcame this storm together.
Victory has come to us.
Endless happiness fills us.

We are together.
One have we become.
Nothing will ever take it away.

~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~

A third, greater light smiles from above.

~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~

We invite Him down...

~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~

He comes. He is happy. That's what He wanted to do all this time.
We merely needed to recognize Him, call Him, want Him.
But we were blind.

~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~----------~

That is why He sent us each other.
