![]() I need poetryA Poem by JPatrickAusanka
I need poetry like the salt needs the sea,
Like heaven needs belief and
Hell needs the thieves.
I need poetry like songbirds need to sing and
Worms need to feed
I need poetry like Tommy Chong
needs good weed.
I need poetry in that intravenous way,
Smoking that s**t is too weak for me.
I need the rough poetry,
The kind that grabs you by your hips in bed
And makes you scream PLEASE!
I need poetry in that soft way, in that
tickle my feet with a feather kind of way
In that, "goddamn I f*****g love you!" way,
In that "woo me with your words way,"
because I am poetry's love slave.
I am her submissive and her dominant
I am her gentle and her rough
I am her love and loss
I am her teeth and claws
I am the pure and the raw
I am the outlaw and the law
I need her on top of me,
to let me be the vessel in her sea.
I wash my hands of the uninspired
I cleanse my pallet of the rotten desires.
I will be poetry's ambition and her
bleak disposition in the face of absurdity,
because Camus was right!
This world is absurd,
but that's no reason to not live,
no reason to not love,
that's no reason to be uninspired.
So I will be the slave of poetry
I will be the salt to her sea and
she the muse that burns inside of me.
