Lean in Close

Lean in Close

A Poem by Jacob Nimble

Lean in close and let your eyes speak for you

lean in close and let the world revolve

lean in close and let secrets astound you

lean in close and let me lead the way

Do you hear my voice inside your head?

Do you remember what it is I dread?

Do you so love what’s understood?

Do you seek the greater good?

Do you just go on with-out a care?

It’s true what they say ‘bout me.

It’s true what they ‘oft times see.

It’s true I’m what I choose to be;

it’s true enough for policy

Where do shattered hearts go on to live?

How do shaded souls know how to give?

Why do we work so damn hard to fall?

it’s like we don’t know anyone at all!

it’s like we just don’t know ourselves at all.

step inside,

yes deep inside,

where angels fear to tread

or ride

inside of your own mind find what’s true,

I say that it will all end well for you

Lean in close,

let those windows speak for you.

Lean in close and let the world spin.

Lean in close and tell me what astounds you;

lean in close, I know where to begin.
