Crash

Crash

A Poem by Jaclyn

I fell down the stairs today.
The left ankle buckled sideways,
Hinge to a trapdoor,
Tossing my body to the basement floor,
Head clapping against the wall
Before form sprawled like a starfish,
Legs and arms in symmetrical points,
A living compass.

I swam in startled confusion,
Sky walls and cloud ceiling
Blurred with my tears of shocked pain,
Throat choked shut with alarm and hope.
Tentative rotations of my ankle
Brought no bruised agony,
And my spirits soared and crashed
As I realized
I could still go to work.

Ha! I was suspicious from start. I knew no one can describe falling down from stair in such a great details. So far my favorite poem. I can relate to this poem, I think anyone who has held a job in his/her lifetime can relate to this poem. It would be a good idea if you make this one a bit longer.

Great twist (double meaning intended). You had me cringing in pain, then laughing. If only one could sustain that perfect injury - temporary and just barely serious enough to justify a day off.

lol. I have to agree with Manoosh. I thought it was funny, too. I just wouldn't have gone in, but you must be dedicated. Great story. Rain..

I know it sounds cruel but my first reaction to this was to laugh ....... the first verse made me giggle. Then I carried on reading and felt guilty. I like the way this was written, it smacked of slap-stick and irony, sorry that I laughed. Mx
