Caged

I wrote this while volunteering at a local animal shelter. I used an unorthodox rhyme scheme (AAB CCB) to maintain suspense while building it with 5-5-6 syllable lines.

I'm trapped in a cage

Like words on a page

Watching the world go by

So now that I'm stuck

I'm all out of luck

Nothing to do but die

I've nothing to do

"Caged beast at the zoo"

That's what the kids call me

Though I know one day

I will disobey

That's when I will break free
