Sweet Summer Rain

Sweet Summer Rain

A Poem by James

The rain on the roof, it’s hypnotic.

My mind drifts back home.

The tin roof on an old screened-in porch -

summer nights we slept there,

escaping the southern heat,

feeling the cool breeze after a thunderstorm.

I smell the moisture in the air -

fresh rain on the grass outside.

Steam rises from the paved road.

The rhythmic sound sends me to sleep.

I see my mother and my grandmother

shucking corn and shelling beans.

I catch nightcrawlers with my grandfather.

Tomorrow we’re going fishing.

This is exactly the sip of sweet nectar I needed after my drama-filled last days on this website, being the target of hate from more than one direction. God always gives me some sugar to help the medicine go down. Your description of rain is so amazing & true-to-life . . . something we miss so much in California these last 5 dry years. I love the tin roof pattering, the steam rising afterwards, & the women starting their meals from homegrown ingredients . . . so many simple pleasures of life that remind me what really matters (((HUGS)))

James, you are very good with the three S's in your poetry. don't know if that exists or if I've just made it up.

I enjoyed the poem. You took me to good places and memories. I do like the rain also. Sort of a peace, the rain can create. Fishing is cool also. Thank you James for sharing the excellent poetry.
